For much of her life, Alexandra Rammell has worked, both formally and informally, in disability advocacy. After studying and teaching special education for several years in Austin, TX, and at Tesoros de Dios in Managua, Nicaragua, she transitioned to working at the protection and advocacy agency for the state of Texas (Disability Rights Texas) where she was the intake specialist for the Institutional Rights and Civil Liberties team. She worked closely with advocates and lawyers to provide mental health legal assistance for clients living in state hospitals, psychiatric centers, and jails. In November 2020, Alexandra and her husband moved back to Nicaragua, where she is currently the program development coordinator at Tesoros de Dios.
